Gypsy Divers, Oak City Swim School, and AirTech Scuba Services join the Diventures family!

We know this will come as a shock to some, especially our ‘Old Gypsies’. For all of those who have gotten to know us personally, you’ll know that we dedicated so much of ourselves to these businesses before and after we purchased them. We owe an immense debt of gratitude to this place and the founding couple, Dave and Margie, who gave Billy and me a chance.

Especially when they made the wild decision to sell Billy the businesses, and we made an even wilder decision for me to quit my job to come write these newsletters. These last 7 years have given us a lot more than we expected. Including the unanticipated lessons, like how to cook and shred a whole hog at the quarry, how to diagnose and install a new commercial toilet flush valve, what the appropriate gas pipe diameter is to fuel two pool heaters, how to clear a property with a herd of goats… and on.

Most importantly to us, this experience has strengthened our partnership by highlighting our complementary skill sets, thought processes, and personalities. So, no matter where we go from here, it’ll be something we do together. We’ll cherish these past 14 years, quite literally, forever, as we have these tattooed memories for life.

With this deep history and emotional bond, rest assured, we would not have made this decision unless we were certain it was the right one for everyone involved. On November 1st, Diventures will officially own these three businesses. We’ll be here for at least another year to help with this transition to our next chapter. We’re confident there’s more growth to discover and achieve, not just for these businesses, but for the two of us. We’re thankful to have found the people who share our vision for what comes next.
What does this mean for our staff?
As a small business, the lives and futures of our staff are important to everyone, including our customers. We’ve always believed in hiring people who are better than us in areas where we lack, and everyone in our building represents that. From creating engaging conversations on the sales floor or hyper-focusing on regulator pieces for hours, to enthusiastically cheering on your adult swim students or developing age-appropriate curriculum for toddlers, everyone does a better job than Billy and I would have. So, we wouldn’t be in the position where we are without our team, and this decision will support them as they deserve.
While we’ll still be a small business from the front end view, our staff will have the support of a larger network behind the scenes. This means greater opportunities, better education, and hopefully career paths they might not have had before.
And most importantly, they’ll all still be doing the same great work they had been doing before.

What does this mean for you?
Of course, this is all for you! Since we sold successful businesses with great people, not a lot will be changing for you right away. Your credits, trip payments, course plans, etc will all carry over. You’ll still be greeted by the same wonderful people, with the same wistful chlorine aroma and entertaining aquatic creatures, at the same beautiful building.
