We did this trip in September, 2018. Before we went, we had read and heard that Utopia Village and its onsite dive operation, Udive, get rave reviews. Repeat visitors are common. People can’t say enough good things about Utopia Village. It’s all true. Now we can personally confirm that Utopia Village is top-notch. The owners and the staff provided us the most amazing experience during our week there – great customer service, above and beyond experience of pleasant surprises throughout the week. The food is gourmet. And oh yeah, the diving is awesome! We loved it so much we immediately decided we are going back. The owners decided to limit guests to only 16 to provide an even more personal experience. Come see for yourself.

More information
Udive provides valet dive service, transporting and unloading your dive gear every day for all boat dives, and even upon request for shore dives. Each day they wash, dry your gear in the shade, and return it to your assigned locker that matches your room number.

Situated on the edge of the largest reef system in the Western Hemisphere, Utila is an unspoiled tropical island with a quaint Caribbean atmosphere and a distinct feeling of still being “undiscovered”. It is one of the few places in the world where whale sharks are seen close to shore and the only place where there have been documented sightings every month of the year. That is why Utila is called the Whale Shark Capitol of the Caribbean. Of course we cannot guarantee you will see whale sharks, but Utopia Village’s / Udive’s experienced boat captains and dive masters are always on the lookout for whale sharks, and will give you the best opportunity to see and swim with these amazing creatures.
In addition to whale sharks, Utila has wonderful diversity of marine life. Our boat captain spotted dolphins and we got to snorkel with them! We saw all of the following and more: spotted eagle rays, mantis shrimp, nurse sharks, dolphins, grouper, squid, octopus, queen triggers, stingrays, green morays, spotted morays, bearded toad fish, sea horses (we saw so many!!), flounder, lobster, spotted drum, barracuda, Atlantic spade fish, angel fish, nudibranchs, horse-eyed Jacks, king mackerel, Creole wrasse, porcupine pufferfish, pipe fish, garden eels, juveniles, healthy hard and soft corals. When you’re not diving, there are options to kayak, paddleboard, relax in the pool, get a massage at the spa, hang out in the bar, yoga, ping-pong or pool, relax in the hammocks, snorkel, borrow a book from their library and read, go fishing or other optional excursions/tours.
